Thursday Afternoon

Hello, all.  My apologies that I went silent for a while.

Kiara's breathing tube was changed out around 11:30 this morning.  At her request, she got a nice load of Valium prior to the procedure.  Her request to the ENT team: No blood. No pain.  Those asks were generally met; there was a little bit of bleeding, but nothing as originally feared.

The ENT and ICU teams have been working to fine-tune the placement of the new trach tube.  There is air leaking around it, and Kiara is having to work pretty hard to breathe.  A reattach of the ventilator may still be in the offing.

The nurses are working to keep Kiara as comfortable and pain-free as possible.  They've added a couple of different anti-anxiety meds on top of her pain med regimen.  She is managing to get a little bit of sleep.

Once we have some type of resolution to the trach tube issue, we will plot out the next objective and path to get there.

Barbara flew up from LA last night and is here at the hospital with us.  Many thanks to Bob, Nicolas, and Jenny for sharing her.  Especially when there are hundreds of pairs of marching band pants that need to be tailored.

Dawn and family are on the road from Reno.  A warning has been issued to all deer along the highway.

Nancy flies in tomorrow night.  Many thanks to Roger, Cecilia, and Lorenzo for sharing her.  Do you know the difference between an oboe and a bassoon?  A bassoon burns longer.

Much love to our incredible support crew.
-Kelly

Kiara, I was at TBI for the prayer for healing today...I envisioned the beautiful voices drifting up to Portland and filling your room.
Much love to you, my dear friend, and your beautiful family.
