Exchange from a few minutes ago -
Kelly: I was told the gravest danger for her would be when they change out the trach tube.
Dr. A: That statement was based upon a misinterpretation of the facts.
Lesson for the day - Always talk to the person in charge.
Dr. A and the team came through a little bit ago. Essentially, he wants the ICU docs to cut back the sedation and let Kiara wake up, and for her start breathing without the machine (even if that means coughing). None of that is inherently more dangerous to the stent.
He will trade out the current breathing tube for a softer, more-flexible trach (good bye stainless steel). What they have here may not fit perfectly, but he's going to order one they can cut to size. No off-the-rack stuff for Kiara.
There is still the risk of another bleed, but that risk is something she will live with for the rest of her life.
Again, thank you all for everything. I told Kiara this morning that there were hundreds of arms holding her.
More later. Love you all.

It is always best to defer to the man in charge. They know things the rest of us don't. I couldn't be happier. I can't wait to get up there and be with you guys. Take care. Love you so much!
Thank you for posting so early. Kelly, the arms are also holding you up. I could hear you release that breath as you listened to the doc. I know a I did. Sending love and prayers. And rain.
Whew. Thanks for sharing with us. So thankful. Yes, those arms are holding you both. Love and hugs, Anne
Kelly, we are reading your updates regularly and thinking of you and Kiara and the girls all day long. The Stand women are standing by your family with all our love.
Joy
Thank you so much, Kelly. Breathing deeply over here, too. I'm liking Dr A. You breathe, too.
