It has been a frenzied few days in the Wolf household. Kelly's mom was here for a week helping out, thank goodness! She has been cooking and doing laundry and doing the morning kid dressing duties. We've had ballet recital and Chanukah Crafts and a piano recital (she and Kelly played a duet.) A lot of running around!!!
As you can see by the smile on her face, it was totally worth it! She was front row center of her group and loving every minute of it. A huge thanks to all the bun helpers, and to Heather and Cindy who came to watch last night's performance. Nancy's two daughters performed as well and were great. The tiny kids were so adorable!
While I was dashing from Chanukah Crafts to the piano recital, Kelly was dashing from dropping his mother at the airport to the recital. Nothing like arriving with only a minute to spare. They were on first and did a fine job on the Theme from Star Wars.
We came home to quiet. Blessed quiet. Karissa went to play with the neighbor and we had quiet. No where to be, no deadlines to meet (why no, I'm not ready for Chanukah yet.. la-- la-- la--- I am not listening, I am not listening), no messes to clean up. Ahhh....
Yes, the sink is already full of dishes again and our hamper is somehow full again, but sometimes you just have to take an afternoon off. Not something I'm really good at, mind you, but even I can be subdued by the lure of a hot bath in peace.
On the health front, the speaking seems clearer. What sounds I cannot make are also becoming clearer. I'll need to make little signs or something for those sounds. The swelling on the right side of my neck has gone down a lot, while the left side is still pretty stretched. I would have thought the right side would take longer as it had much more radiation, but it hasn't even really been numb. I guess the fact that they had to dig a big tumor out of the left is more the deciding factor for inflammation.
Sleep is also getting better, with only two or three suctionings a night. I've finally gotten the hang of the wedge/pillow combination, which seems to help.
The feeding tube is still unhappy, so this will need to be examined. The irritation and the pain is very uncomfortable. The goopy discharge is unattractive. The stuff that looks suspiciously like my previous meal is downright worrisome. We shall see what the doctor says about this. If he tightens the ring up again without asking, I may break his hand.
Karissa has riding tomorrow and I have the Marvelous Mia, who will continue the reordering of my body parts. She was hopeful she could do the back of my neck/head maybe this week. YAY! Laura is bringing the items from Trader Joe's. She went on Saturday! Saturday! I'd rather cut out my ton...oh, well, you know what I mean...
We will be scrambling to be ready for Chanukah and Thanksgiving like many other families. However, being here to celebrate is better than any gifts or gelt, and we certainly have much to be thankful for this year. Until tomorrow....

My Dear Kiara -
It was an absolute delight spending this last week with you & Kelly & the girls.
You may have left a little piece of you in Portland, but you still have your above average intelligence, your quick wit, your sometimes biting sarcasm and that "bring it on attitude".
Loved the times we had just sitting and talking and letting our crochet hooks do their thing.
It is a joy to be with you - I am proud to call you my daughter -in-law - actually let's get rid of the unnecessary "in-law" part.
Kiara, you rock!!!
Love & hugs
