Pharmacy Phun

I can only wonder what the pharmacists must think when I bring in new prescriptions. Although I take nothing prescription on a daily basis, I have a wide and varied collection of as needed/as directed.

Yesterday I had to pick up four prescriptions. Two were for Kelly's allergy induced sinus infection. Nasal spray. Amoxicillin. Nice. Basic. Straight forward. Other than the warning label that the antibiotics would interfere with his birth control pills, an uncomplicated consultation.

Then she turns to my two. Compazine and nitroglycerin. She explains all about when to take the compazine and the potential side effects, as well as the usual side effects of the Ethyol, which hopefully it will counteract. She knew radiation meds when she saw them. She seemed confused by the nitro at first, asking what this had to do with radiation. I pointed to my sternotomy scar and said, "those are for this." She said open heart and cancer? I replied, "Happy 40th birthday. Your life suddenly seems much better than it did, doesn't it?" She just nodded.

I need to carry the nitro with me, but it can't get too hot. One more thing to keep track of. Since I have lost another pair sunglasses, it doesn't bode well. Since it doesn't have a child proof cap, I better be careful when and where I misplace it.

There was the whole 'put it under your tongue and let it dissolve' problem. Will it irritate my still healing tongue? Will it bother my mouth when it is fried from radiation? Probably not. My favorite is the label:

Place 1 tablet under tongue for chest pain- repeat every 5 min. Max of 3 tabs in 15 min. Seek help thereafter.

It is just what I always need in my life, a 'you've gone too far' point for medication. I love that MSN has them on the mapping, "The last intersection is Crown Street. If you reach Castle Street, you've gone too far." For my friend Barbara, she needs the you have not gone far enough version. Maybe if you reverse directions...

Crab was fabulous as was three hours of adult conversation. Karina went to a friend's house, so Kelly and Karissa had a daddy/daughter evening. And a great time was had by all.

What is new in your world?
