Update from Portland

Hello all.  It's Kelly, not Kiara.  You'll know that soon enough as my writing is far less Jed Bartlett and far more Joe Friday.

We checked in with Dr. A's surgery scheduler this morning.  She said to be at OHSU at 2:30 for a 4:30 procedure.  Being the dutiful band geeks that we are, Kiara and I were right on time.  The incredible admissions desk person (I'm horrible with names) got Kiara checked in quickly.  He also arranged for someone to bring her an oxygen tank to the lobby because the O/R didn't have a spot for her yet and we would need to wait.

And wait.

And wait.

The same admissions desk person came out around 5:00 and gave us the thumbs up to head down to pre-op.  So down to the land of scrubs we went.

Lots of conversations with lots of people.

The initial plan was to do the procedure with a local anesthetic and sedation.  After the surgeon and anesthesiologist took good look at how swollen and stiff Kiara's neck is, they decided that it would be better to put Kiara under general anesthetic instead.  OK.  Fine.  JUST GET THE DAMN THING DONE SO SHE CAN BREATHE!

Sorry.  I'm better now.

So here I sit once again in the OHSU surgical waiting room.  The last look at the big board says that as of 7:30pm, the procedure is still in process.  And, I'm assuming, there will be a longer stay in the recovery room than there would have been under the original plan.

Will update soon.  Thanks!
