It was a fairly quiet day here. I didn't sleep well last night, thinking about Aimee. I could not drag myself out of bed until 10:30. So much for a productive morning. I didn't even manage to get dressed by the time Karina got home at noon.
We did manage to run a few errands before ballet. Karissa is having some kind of a growth spurt. Unusual for her. She has grown almost two inches and gained 10 pounds since the start of the school year. She had to get some new shoes. Up two sizes from the ones she was wearing. I am thrilled that she is growing, but it is so strange for her to grow quickly like this. One of the things the endocrinologist was counting on was her continuing to be a late bloomer and grow over a longer period of time. We are headed back to see her in January.
Yesterday in my sadness I forgot to thank Laura for making the Trader Joe's delivery. She also made me a lovely scarf in oral cancer maroon. Prettier than the rubber bracelets my family is all sporting, but I love them for it.
I also forgot to thank Mia for all the pieces she fit back into place. The work she did last week stayed in place so hopefully this will be a forward project instead of one step forward- one step back.
Due to the Thanksgiving holiday we had ballet and piano today. That makes for a long afternoon, but Karissa just seems to lap it up. She never wants to stop until she collapses into bed at night. While she was in ballet, Karina and I ran an picked up some herbs and some good advice from Heather at Mrs. Thompson's. I learn something new every time.
I don't know if I would say Kelly drew the short straw or got lucky as he is out making the Thanksgiving dinner shopping trip as I type. I wouldn't want to deal with the bedlam, but it does give him a break from the constant do this, do this, do this of home.
Oh, and because there is never a truly dull moment- when Kelly's mom was here, she saw a mouse in the small bathroom. Not unusual in the winter, especially as cold as it has been. Usually a well placed trap will take care of it. Instead, the neurotic old cat took things into her own paws. We stopped by the house just to grab Karissa's piano stuff and I walked into the kitchen. The cat ran out of the kitchen. I stepped on something. Crunch. EWWWWW.... the dead mouse she was surely hustling off to Karina's room with before I walked in. Thank goodness I had shoes on, but ewwww... Also, blood and I don't get along. Karina had to scoop it up into the trash (out of fear it would end up in her bed anyway) and put the can outside. We did leave the crime scene for Kelly to clean up. Yuck.
Tomorrow we are all headed to Portland for my doctor/speech appointments. At least we'll all be together celebrating Hanukkah in the traffic gridlock. I have to figure out how food is going to work since I'm not using formula anymore. Hey, that squash soup was pretty good. Not exactly the perfect family first night of Hanukkah from the picture books with brisket and latkes, sufganiyot and dreidels. Sigh. Maybe next year.
I'll give you the doctor's update tomorrow night. Until then, watch where you step.

Excellent advice
You know the cat cleaned up the crime scene as soon as you left. Ewwwwwww.
Safe travels to Portland, my dears, and enjoy the first night of Hanukkah.
I will be holding you all close in my heart tonite, and Mitch's family as well, as Jamie and I light the first candle on the menorah.
We are a lucky family to have each other.
I will be awaiting good news from Portland.
Love & hugs to all
