Saturday is swelling day. Both my girls at some point had one of those dolls you fill with warm water. I feel like that. My face seems huge! Not that there is anything else glamorous about me today, but still.
It has been a busy day already. My IV is still in, but capped off. I had a "bed bath" and got a clean gown. You know your life has been reduced to the fundamentals when getting to brush your teeth with a sponge and suction is almost orgasmic. They also deflated my trach, which leads to coughing up really gross stuff. So much for brushing my teeth.
Only two laps of the floor so far. The view from here is incredible-- 13th floor with Portland, Mt Hood, and river views. Gorgeous. More difficult to appreciate when you are kind of stooped over, but beautiful.
Speech path was in to talk about text to talk devices. Kelly is all over this. I'm a little worried that he keeps mentioning Kathleen Turner's voice...
Kelly has been truly amazing. Interestingly, being in charge of talking has been the hardest task for him. I guess that comes from being married to me for this long-- he is out of practice. All the nurses really appreciate his help and are quite keen to show him how to do tube feeding, clean the trach, and drain care. I guess the grossed out looks I give them tells them I will not be emptying my own drains. Fortunately no one cares to collect vomit, so I'm off the hook for now.
The doctors agreed to trade off with Torredol (IV Aleve) and Tylenol as I maxed my dosage. One beats up your liver, the other one your kidneys. Oh, to be able to take anything and go to la la land. Not really. The pain isn't that bad. I also think when you have few pain management options you are more motivated to get better. I hope that is true.
Kelly is headed back to Eugene to spend some time with the girls tomorrow. I'm a little nervous because I like having my own personal care giver with a vested interest. All the nurses have been great though. Now if I could break the person at the call desk from asking me what I need when I ring my call button, I'd be in business.
Love to all of you!

Love right back to you!! At the rate you are healing and progressing, I can picture you in your garden pulling weeds and planting whatever it is you plant in October very, very soon.
I told Kelly I would even be willing to learn how to text if it meant I could communicate with you.
That's how much you mean to me.
Love and hugs from your Las Vegas Wolf Pack.

Kiara, it was "swell" to hear from you today. ;) I just couldn't resist, dear.
You should get to change voices/accents depending on the mood or setting. Kelly has been so great, heck if he wants Kathleen Turner.... I think you should get a Bart Simpson voice for long meetings.
Are you able to access your emails?
Tell Kelly to look at a recent photo of Kathleen Turner and that may quell his desire.
Voices to avoid: Jennifer Tilly, Fran Drescher, Gilbert Gottfried
Voices to explore: Samuel L. Jackson, Betty White, Maggie Smith
You'll be fine tomorrow.
Why not go with pizazz and get a foreign sounding voice that would really turn heads! I know what you mean about the swelling- I remember Colin' face would swell a day or two after surgery. I wish I could be there to be your personal caregiver. Keep up the great spirits. It helps with healing.
It is time to go for a walk down to the call center with some Post it's. Clearly stating what you want when you push the button...
Hope you have a comfortable & pain free night.
Sleep well.
Love to you from Stan & Bonnie.

Keep up the healing and I will see you soon-ish!
About the front desk person: any way you could lure them to your room, use your trach tube to blow-gun them with some of your cleaning-fixins?
