It has been a long day. A long week and a half. Just long.
Last night I had a nurse I haven't had yet (unusual by itself). Excellent wound care. Amazing ability to let you sleep. HORRIBLE with trach care. That last one was a bit of a problem because they put me back in the training trach yesterday. Ugh!
This morning the "team" came around and checked out the work. They were surprised that the trach had been changed. They would "take care of that" later. Later turned out to only be about a half an hour. One doc came by and (yes, in my bed), pulled the training trach and put in a new #4 trach. He also pulled what remained of the JP drain they cut off that was just running everywhere. Then replaced it with, yes, yet another Penrose drain. Yuck.
Apparently they cleaned a lot of yuck out of my neck and cultured it. Two different icky things in there. Adding a secondary antibiotic, a penicillin look alike since I can't take penicillin, but that is what they need to kill this bad boy. They also added kefir back into my 'diet' to help combat what all these antibiotics are doing to my system.
I've been tired today. And getting rather stir crazy. Outside of my little jaunt to OR yesterday, I haven't been out of this ward for 10 days. Getting to be a drag. I have books and magazines to read, TV to watch, movies you can borrow, computer, etc. Sitting makes my rear hurt. Lying in bed makes my rear hurt. Being bored makes my rear hurt....
Sorry I am too tired for witty repartee today. Here's hoping tomorrow will be a better day. Discharge is not potentially "early next week."

I did laundry today and cleaned the living room. A small victory for me and the loss of an environment for several communities. Don't tell Bob, some of them might have been spiders. I am off to a football game. Due to budget cuts, we have been unable to travel with the football team to away games but this one is special, since it is our sister school. So the football team is "sharing in the buses with the band" Which means the buses will take the JV team over to the school. Then come back and take the varsity team over to the school, then come back and get the band. We go last and come back first. So the band will only be there for two quarters, since the buses have to get back to the school to get the JV players during the third quarter, so the are back in time to get the varsity players at the end of the game. This was the "solution" they came up with to meet the needs of the event. Some days, I don't even know why they bother. This week, the battery finally got the music to the third movement. They learned it on the field with the marching band. Good thing too, since they will be competing with it this weekend. Keep your fingers crossed that they don't pull the band completely apart and get reamed for doing it during the competition. The band has been playing the third movement with out drums for the past drive weeks, so I am sure the addition of their voices won't screw any one up. If I were there would could play a game. Get Kelly to play the Catan card game with you. It will make you feel better. Love you!
Awww Kiara, sending hugs to you!
Do you think the team does "rock, paper, scissor" in the hallway to see who gets to work on you?
I hope, hope, hope tomorrow will be a better day for you.
Do you get the feeling you might appear in the next nurses "training manual"?
Sending you love from Aunt Sylvia and Dale.
Sleep well.

I think in the dictionary the term "resilient" should just say "Kiara." Maybe we can work your photo into the British products that say "Keep Calm and Carry On." You could make a little money off the revenue and maybe get one of those black-market recliners with the leg (or butt) massagers. Hope your day is restful...and carry on.
