And we're back

Good morning Fans & Friends.

Kiara moved into her room around 10:00 last night.  Her home for the next week is in the Knight Cancer Institute here at OHSU.  So, thank you Uncle Phil.  And, Kiara's hospital gowns come in 4,000 different color combinations.

This morning we've seen the surgeons, Andersen & Wax, along with trailing Residents.  The respiratory discharge specialist described the various pieces of machinery that would be coming to our house to take care of the tracheostomy tube.  The speech therapist brought some cards that allow Kiara to point at various words/phrases (Pain, Bathroom, Adjust Bed) in order to communicate.  She has already been making great use of the Fisher Price Magna Doodle.  Thank you, Jen.

Kiara's feeling as well as can be expected.  Some pain, but it's being managed by Tylenol.  It's difficult to get comfortable, as she prefers to sleep on her side, but there are too many tubes and wires sticking out of her to make that feasible.  She was up at 3am taking a walk in the hall (using a walker).  In her words, she's both bored and exhausted.

The timeline I heard this morning has us here until Wednesday next week.  Of course, everything depends upon healing.

I'll post again later today.  If you have any specific questions you'd like me to address, go ahead and post a comment to the blog or on Kiara's Facebook page.

Wow! That is great that she is up and walking. I always love those late night hospital walks. Had my share in May. Tell her that she is loved.

Walking and complaining she's bored. :)
Always a good sign in a hospital.

Put a challenge in front of Kiara & she says "bring it on".

Would like to send flowers but not sure if the smell would be too much right now.

My suitcase is packed waiting for the call. Hugs & kisses

Love you both "THIS MUCH"

Kelly;
Would you ask if she would be OK with me sharing this blog on our Warriors Facebook page. I'm personally so thankful for the skill of the surgeons and the strength of her family and friends, the amazing outpouring of thoughts and prayers and of course Kiara's continous Pollyanna focus! Bless you all.

Walking the halls the day after surgery .. yeah, that's Kiara. Tylenol for major head and neck surgery? I wonder what my Lortab-loving clientele would think about that. Weenies! Everybody's tummies are in knots around here, but her progress is encouraging. Love from the OK contingent. I will chat with you this weekend, via real telephonic communication, when things settle down.
