Okay, so my last day won't be Friday. And, I am so okay with that. I went early to radiation today because I couldn't figure out for the life of me how I was going to put that horrible mouthpiece in on my completely blistered tongue.
Initially the nurse was trying to figure out various solutions: gargle with salt water right before, coat the mouth piece with something, etc. I pointed out there was also no way those dental rolls would go in, too. She decided maybe Dr. Gemmell should come take a look. She took one look in my mouth and said, "You're taking this week off." Apparently my mouth looks pretty horrible, even to a professional. So no radiation today or this week. She did reinforce that I have to come back for the final week next week and that this would not compromise me in any way.
I almost cried in relief. My mouth hurts all the time, but realizing I wouldn't have to put that mouthpiece in for a week made it feel just a little bit better.
I also left with three more prescriptions. Two refills for the pain patch, two bottles of viscous lidocaine, and kenalog cream for the burns on my neck. I can't begin to think what the pharmacist at the Fred Meyer must think. Since speaking is painful, I try to avoid it. Sometimes that creates confusion. She did say I looked pretty miserable, so I guess she understands.
I had to kill 30 minutes waiting for the prescriptions to be filled. Fortunately there plenty of things to see at Fred Meyer, as well as many places to sit down and rest. Whoo hoo. I sat and observed three women arguing over a comforter for a fourth person who wasn't there. I never heard people who were clearly related be so mean to each other, in public anyway. The most senior member fought back against the scathing comments by being a complete pain in the... Fascinating.
Well, my daily dish of cup o soup is ready for me. I'm going to try some water again after that. Maybe some lidocaine. Ahh... so many choices....
Love to all,
Kiara
