Kiara is out of surgery and in recovery. I just met with the surgeon. The operation went exactly as planned with no surprises.
They took the tumor off Kiara's tongue and sent the piece to pathology. The initial report from the pathologist was that the tumor was contained completely within the margins of what they took out. Basically, the surgeon got it all on the first swipe.
They took the lymph nodes from her neck and they also all looked clean to the naked eye. They also looked clean on the CT scan 10 days ago. Hopefully, the pathology report comes back clean as well. We'll know in about a week. Clean path report = no radiation.
There was no need for a tracheotomy.
Kiara will be in Intensive Care tonight, and we anticipate her being in the hospital until Friday.

We have been thinking about Kiara all day.
The initial post-op report sounds good. Hopefully things are as clean and smooth as they appear to be.
